Joseph Parker, Wilder in eliminator for WBC title
Anthony Joshua, the former heavyweight champion of the world, will face Deontay Wilder in 2024 in what may be the most important final eliminator for Tyson Fury’s WBC championship.
On December 23, Joshua and Wilder will face Otto Wallin and Joseph Parker, respectively, in separate bouts.
Joshua and Wilder will fight each other in the next year if they both win. However, despite being the WBC’s top-ranked contenders, No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, they have decided not to compete for the heavyweight title.
The WBC has reportedly confirmed that their heavyweight championship, along with the IBF, WBA, and WBO titles, will be fought in both an undisputed title fight between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk on February 17 and a rematch, according to Sky Sports.
WBC Prez Would Love To See Wilder vs. Joshua as Final Eliminator For Title Shot
Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder in a championship WBC eliminator would be the ultimate dream match, according to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman.
Wilder holds the top ranking, with Joshua coming in at number two.
Oleksandr Usyk, the champion of the WBO, IBF, IBO, and WBA, will square off against WBC champion Tyson Fury on February 17.
Prior to that, on December 23, in Saudi Arabia, Wilder and Joshua will compete on the same program. Top contender Otto Wallin will face Joshua, and fellow former champion Joseph Parker will face Wilder.
If both Wilder and Joshua prevail in their upcoming battles, they may finally square off in 2024.
Furthermore, Sulaiman desires the bout to be approved by his organization as the last eliminator in order to assign a mandatory challenger to the victor of Fury-Usyk.
Sulaiman said to Sky Sports, “We’ve been waiting, pushing, mediating, and encouraging everyone to try to make this happen.”
